UNIMEDTH Institute of Training Holds 2026/2027 Matriculation Ceremony

The Institute of Training, University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital, UNIMEDTH, Ondo, held its 2026/2027 Matriculation Ceremony on Monday, 15th September, 2026, at the UNIMEDTH Institute Hall.

The ceremony was themed: "Training to Practice: Building Competence and Functionality for Effective Healthcare Delivery."

The ceremony brought together the hospital's management, staff, matriculating students and other stakeholders to mark the formal commencement of professional training programmes at the Institute.

The Chief Host and Chief Medical Director, CMD, UNIMEDTH, Professor Michael Olumide Gbala, commended the Institute's team, led by the Director, Institute of Training, Dr. Falade Joshua, for their commitment to professional education and capacity development within the institution.

Professor Gbala emphasized that the three major mandates of the teaching hospital are the provision of excellent clinical services, training and research. He noted that knowledge has no end and reaffirmed that training must remain a continuous process throughout life.

He encouraged the matriculating students to embrace lifelong learning, acquire relevant knowledge and make the most of their training.

Delivering the keynote address, "From Training to Practice: Building Competence, Character and Compassion in Healthcare Delivery," the Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee, Professor Akinbodewa Akinwumi, stressed that healthcare education must produce professionals who embody competence, character and compassion.

The professor reiterated that training is a systematic process of imparting knowledge, developing skills, strengthening professional attitudes and enhancing competencies to enable individuals to perform their assigned roles, tasks and professional responsibilities effectively.

While addressing the students, the Director, Institute of Training, Dr. Falade Joshua, described the ceremony as part of the hospital's commitment to developing a highly skilled, competent and responsive healthcare workforce.

He charged them to remain committed to their studies, demonstrate discipline and take full advantage of skills the programme offers, with a view to improving their competence and contributing meaningfully to quality healthcare delivery.

Dr. Falade also appreciated the CMD and the entire management team of UNIMED Teaching Hospital for their continued support of staff development and capacity building.
