The University of Calabar (UNICAL) has provided an update on the ongoing admission process for the 2024/2025 academic session. The recently released merit-based admission list features candidates who met their departmental cutoff scores and fulfilled other criteria such as proper subject combinations and successful upload of their SSCE results. The university assures that the merit list is entirely transparent and unaltered.

Applicants who are yet to gain admission are encouraged to remain patient, as additional names will be uploaded in the coming days. The first supplementary list (Supplementary List I) will soon be released, including both Direct Entry and UTME candidates. This list will likely be more competitive and will admit students who may not have been accepted in the merit list. The university acknowledges that admission through supplementary lists often involves factors beyond high scores, and candidates are advised to act promptly to maximize their chances.

UNICAL also noted that the state of origin is considered during the selection process, as the university aims to maintain a balance of admissions across all states. Applicants from states with historically high numbers of candidates, such as Abia, Anambra, Imo, and Akwa Ibom, face stiffer competition.

Candidates are encouraged to keep checking their admission status on the JAMB CAPS portal, and to remain hopeful as more admissions are expected to be confirmed in the coming weeks.
