The Vice-Chancellor of University of Cross River State, Francisca Bassey, has announced the promotion of nine academic staff members across different faculties of the institution following successful appraisal exercises conducted by external assessors.

The Vice-Chancellor of University of Cross River State, Francisca Bassey, has announced the promotion of nine academic staff members across different faculties of the institution following successful appraisal exercises conducted by external assessors.

The promotions were unveiled on April 23, 2026, during an emergency Senate meeting held at the university’s Calabar campus.

According to the Vice-Chancellor, five lecturers were elevated from the rank of Reader to Professor, while four others advanced from Senior Lecturer to Reader.

The newly promoted professors are Joseph Ukpata and Nkpa Ogarekpe of the Department of Civil Engineering, Adebisi Adesola of the Department of Accounting, Sunday Ebaye of the Department of Peace and Conflict Studies, and Ferdinand Kamgba of the Department of Physics.

Those promoted to the rank of Reader include Patrick Ushie of the Department of Physics, Ujong Peter Ujong of the Department of Medical Biochemistry, Victoria Iyishu of the Department of Library and Information Science, and Jerome Egbe of the Department of Civil Engineering.

Speaking during the meeting, Francisca Bassey commended the promoted academics for their commitment to scholarship, research, teaching, and service to the university community.

She noted that the promotions reflect both the individual achievements of the lecturers and the institution’s continued drive toward academic excellence and institutional development.

Members of the university community also congratulated the affected scholars, describing the promotions as well-deserved and a reflection of the university’s growing academic profile and commitment to staff development.
