University of Ibadan Affirms Zero Tolerance for Sexual Harassment
University of Ibadan has reaffirmed its stance on keeping members of the University's community safe.
In a resolute stance against sexual harassment, the University of Ibadan has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a safe and respectful environment for all members of its community.
Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, the Vice-Chancellor, emphasized this during a recent meeting with the Gender Mainstreaming Committee.
Professor Adebowale underscored that sexual harassment is an intolerable offense, one that inflicts emotional trauma, stigmatization, and other harmful consequences on victims. He firmly stated that no individual should engage in such reprehensible behavior.
The Gender Mainstreaming Committee received commendation from the Vice-Chancellor for their unwavering dedication to fostering a harassment-free atmosphere within the university. He encouraged them to persist in their efforts to raise awareness about sexual harassment not only within the campus but also beyond its boundaries.
Assuring that management would address the needs of the Centre appropriately, Professor Adebowale expressed his commitment to supporting initiatives that combat sexual harassment.
The Focal Person of the Gender Mainstreaming Office, Professor Olapeju O. Aiyelaagbe, provided an update on the Centre's activities during the courtesy visit. She highlighted the positive impact of the Centre's sexual harassment policy on the university's reputation and ranking.
Furthermore, Professor Aiyelaagbe emphasized collaboration with non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that share the same mission. She requested continued institutional support for training and other activities aimed at enhancing their work in promoting a safe and respectful environment for all.
