University of Lagos and Switzerland Forge Partnership in Blockchain, Fintech, and Hydroponics

In a groundbreaking development, the University of Lagos (UNILAG) and the Consul General of Switzerland in Lagos, Frank Eggmann, have entered into a collaborative agreement to explore innovative partnerships in the fields of blockchain/fintech and hydroponics.

The agreement was formalized on Thursday, November 9, 2023, during a courtesy visit by the Consul General and Ngozi Anyaso, the Trade Advisor at the Consulate General of Switzerland in Lagos. The distinguished guests were warmly received by UNILAG's leadership team, including Vice-Chancellor Prof. Folasade Ogunsola, OON, FAS; Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics & Research) Prof. Bola Oboh; Acting Registrar Mrs. Olakunle Makinde; and Bursar Mrs. Olufunmilola Adekunle.

Addressing the collaboration, Prof. Ogunsola, from her 11th-floor Senate House Office, outlined some of UNILAG's recent ventures in innovation, entrepreneurship, design thinking, robotics, and artificial intelligence. She emphasized the university's commitment to hands-on approaches across various faculties and expressed particular interest in hydroponic agriculture—a method of plant cultivation using water-based nutrient solutions instead of soil.

During the discussions, Mr. Frank Eggmann underscored Switzerland's position as the "Crypto-Valley" of the world, citing its leading cryptosystem akin to Silicon Valley in the United States. He drew attention to Switzerland's skilled vocational workers and their comprehensive training in various business-related aspects such as accounting and human resources management. Mr. Eggmann expressed Switzerland's eagerness to explore additional areas of collaboration with UNILAG, indicating a willingness to broaden the scope of the partnership.
