The Management of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, has announced a total and indefinite ban on all forms of final year students’ involvement in final examinations orchestration, popularly known as “signing off.”
In a memorandum issued on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, and signed by the Registrar, Dr. Chinenye Gloria Okeke, the university management said the decision takes immediate effect and applies across all university premises.
According to the notice, the ban follows recurring incidents of chaos, violence, and disruption of academic activities that have accompanied such events in recent years. The university also expressed concern over the presence of unauthorized individuals who exploit the gatherings, posing a threat to the safety and security of students, staff, and the wider community.

The management stated that any student found participating in orchestration or related activities risks severe disciplinary measures, including rustication. It further warned that outsiders who enter the campus in connection with such activities would be arrested and prosecuted for disorderly conduct and breach of peace.
The institution emphasized its commitment to maintaining order, protecting lives and property, and providing a secure environment for academic pursuits, while urging students to concentrate on their academic responsibilities and report misconduct or safety threats to the appropriate authorities.
