A tragic incident has occurred at Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) in Awka, Anambra State, where a law student, Chioma Isabella Ajana, died after allegedly being denied access to her diabetes medication by the hostel mistress.

Chioma, a resident of Elmada hostel, lost her room key and sought assistance from the hostel mistress, Madam Bright, to obtain a spare key. However, Madam Bright reportedly demanded a payment of N120,000, which Chioma and her roommates couldn't afford. Despite their pleas, citing Chioma's urgent need for insulin medication, the hostel mistress allegedly refused to provide assistance.

Chioma's condition worsened, and she collapsed on Sunday, July 6. She was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she battled for her life for three days before being pronounced dead on Wednesday, July 9.

The incident has sparked outrage among students, who are demanding justice for Chioma. They claim that the hostel mistress's actions constitute negligence and are calling for a thorough investigation. The university administration has yet to release an official statement detailing the events leading to Chioma's death or confirming the allegations against the hostel mistress. However, student organizations and advocacy groups are demanding that the university take swift action, including suspending the hostel mistress pending a thorough inquiry .
