The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), commenced its annual Students' Week with a solemn prayer meeting on Monday evening, signaling the start of a week-long series of events designed to foster community spirit and student engagement. The prayer session, held from 4:30 PM to 5:00 PM, marked the beginning of a diverse lineup of activities aimed at providing students with opportunities to recreate, reconnect, and enhance their social lives amidst a busy academic schedule.

Comrade Annie Miracle Chinonyerem, the SUG Vice President, outlined the week’s activities, which include a variety of events tailored to appeal to different student interests. Despite the administration's decision not to grant a lecture-free week due to the upcoming exams and a tight academic calendar, the SUG has strategically scheduled most events in the evening to ensure maximum participation without disrupting academic activities.

The highlight of the week is as follows:

Tuesday: Trade Fair

The trade fair will be held at Freedom Square from 10 AM to 6 PM. It provides a platform for student vendors to showcase and sell their goods and services. This initiative aims to support student entrepreneurship and offers a unique opportunity for students to shop conveniently between classes.

Wednesday: Old School/Costume Parade

At 4 PM, the Ekpo Refectory will transform into a nostalgic time capsule with students donning outfits from the 1990s. The event promises an evening of dance, entertainment, and a celebration of retro vibes.

Thursday: Rag Day

Students will dress in rags and attend classes to create awareness and raise funds. This tradition allows students to creatively express themselves while engaging in a fun, campus-wide activity.

Friday: Cultural Day

Starting at 12 PM in Freedom Square, Cultural Day is the centerpiece of the Students' Week. The event will feature free food and drinks, dance competitions, the coronation of new royal figures (Igwe and Lolo), a mock traditional marriage, and traditional wrestling. It is a celebration of Igbo culture and heritage, providing students with a rich cultural experience.

Saturday: Jersey Day and Jog Out

The day begins with a jog from Malimah to the stadium, followed by various games such as table tennis, ludo, chess, and whot cards. This day focuses on physical fitness and friendly competition among students.

Sunday: Thanksgiving Service

The week concludes with a thanksgiving service at St. Peter's Catholic Church at 7:45 AM, where students will gather to express gratitude for a successful and engaging week.

Comrade Chinonyerem emphasized the importance of student participation, stating, "I want the students to know that this week is for them, to relieve stress and enjoy campus life beyond academics. Our measures for awareness have been effective, and we hope to see a significant turnout."

With a well-organized committee overseeing the events and an array of activities planned, this year's Students' Week at UNN promises to be a memorable experience, fostering unity and a sense of community among the students.
