Wholistic Edu-Consult and Ojo Local Government Honor Outstanding Teachers on World Teachers' Day in Lagos
In celebration of the 2023 World Teachers' Day, Wholistic Edu-Consult, in collaboration with Ojo Local Government in Lagos, has recognized and awarded the exemplary contributions of Mr. Olanrewaju Afolabi and Mrs. Busayo Odubanjo as the most outstanding male and female teachers in Ojo Local Government.
The accolades were presented during the Teachers' Leadership Conference held in Lagos on Thursday, coinciding with World Teachers' Day 2023. The theme for this year's celebration was "The Teachers We Need For The Education We Want: The Global Imperative To Reverse Teacher’s Shortage."
Mrs. Olubunmi Odiaka, the Lead Consultant at Wholistic Edu-Consult, conveyed her congratulations to the awardees and commended other educators who had excelled in various subjects for their exceptional performances.
Speaking at the conference, Odiaka emphasized the importance of self-leadership and its role in teaching, stating, "Leadership is influence, if you can't lead yourself, you can't lead others." She underscored the need for teachers to enhance their leadership, communication, and personal development skills to make a positive impact on their students.
Odiaka called on government authorities at all levels to continue investing resources in the professional development of teachers nationwide to enhance the overall quality of education.
She urged teachers to apply the knowledge gained from various capacity-building programs in their teaching practices, ensuring that students benefit from their improved skills.
Hon. Idowu Rasalu, Chairman of Ojo Local Government, applauded the dedicated efforts of teachers in transforming education and extended his congratulations to the awardees for their exceptional dedication. Rasalu stressed that teachers' influence extends far beyond the classroom and into society at large.
The chairman pledged his commitment to addressing the challenges faced by teachers, including resource shortages, outdated infrastructure, heavy workloads, and insufficient professional development opportunities. He highlighted the local government's focus on improving education infrastructure, including the construction and renovation of classrooms, provision of sanitation facilities, and access to clean water.
Rasalu called on all education stakeholders, including parents, students, communities, and education experts, to collaborate in creating an enabling environment for teachers to thrive.
Prof. Babajide Abidogun, National President of the Early Childhood Association of Nigeria (ECAN), emphasized the significance of quality education for all, emphasizing that teachers play a pivotal role in this endeavor. He advocated for improved working conditions, continuous professional development, and recognition of teachers' invaluable contributions to society.
In his lecture, Mr. Bisi Akande, a Leadership Consultant from MLCT, emphasized that the transformation of education begins with teachers, urging them to develop their leadership skills and positively influence their students.
Mrs. Bunmi Olaloye, Lead Consultant at Early Spring Educational Consult, encouraged teachers to focus on personal development and continuous growth to remain relevant in the 21st century.
Mrs. Ayafeoluwa Wole-Ojo, Lead Trainer at Quints Diction, emphasized the importance of effective communication in teaching, stressing the need for teachers to listen, observe, and pay close attention to their students' verbal and non-verbal cues.
As part of the conference proceedings, the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) presented the Ojo Local Government chairman with an award of excellence, while participants received certificates of attendance.
