The Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Florence Obi, has assured of a successful and smooth collaboration with the Public Complaints Commission (PCC) in Cross River State.
Prof. Obi made this assurance when officials from the Federal Public Complaints Commission, led by its Commissioner, Eld (Dr) Owa Egbara Owa, paid her a courtesy visit in her office. She expressed the university's readiness to support the PCC and its leadership in enhancing the visibility and functionality of the long-standing institution.
She acknowledged the historical challenges faced by the PCC since its inception in 1975 and urged Dr. Owa, an alumnus of UNICAL, to develop strategies that would improve public awareness of the commission's mission and operations. "It is the man who makes the office, not the other way around," she stated, stressing the importance of effective leadership in repositioning the commission for greater productivity.
Dr. Owa, in his address, highlighted the purpose of the visit was to strengthen the relationship between the PCC and the university, recognizing the institution as a key stakeholder in the state. He emphasized the commission's determination to move away from its past dormant stance and work towards greater public awareness of its functions.
The PCC Commissioner explained that the commission’s core responsibility is to investigate administrative injustices, both in the public and private sectors, particularly those registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC). He also noted that the commission has the authority to request any public document from institutions and can recommend prosecution when necessary.
This collaboration is expected to promote accountability and transparency while enhancing public trust in both the University of Calabar and the Public Complaints Commission.
