Following the successful conclusion of the 29th and 30th Convocation Ceremony of the University of Abuja (now Yakubu Gowon University), the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Hakeem Babatunde Fawehinmi, has issued a formal message of appreciation to the dignitaries, partners, and students who contributed to the historic event.
The ceremony was marked by high-level representation from the Federal Government and the presence of prominent national leaders, reflecting the institution's evolving status in Nigeria’s educational landscape.
The Vice-Chancellor expressed profound gratitude to the Visitor to the University, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education, Mr. Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan.
A significant highlight of the occasion was the presence of General Yakubu Gowon, GCFR, the former Head of State and the university’s namesake, described by Prof. Fawehinmi as a "symbol of national unity." The event was also attended by the Honourable Minister of Special Duties, Zaphania Bitrus Jisalo, along with various government delegations.
The ceremony was chaired by the University Chancellor, His Royal Highness, the Emir of Bauchi, Alhaji (Dr.) Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu, CFR. The Vice-Chancellor also lauded the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Distinguished Senator Dr. Olanrewaju Tejuoso, for his "leadership and invaluable support" throughout the planning and execution phases.
In his closing remarks, Professor Fawehinmi offered special commendation to the graduands and their families, noting their impressive turnout. He also thanked the University Convocation Committee, academic and administrative staff, and the student body for their roles in ensuring a seamless and historic celebration.
"To everyone who has been part of this history, we say: thank you, and may God bless you," the Vice-Chancellor concluded.
