1 killed, 70 houses destroyed in Kano windstorm

A windstorm has killed an elderly woman, injured many and destroyed not less than 70 houses in Unguwar Bai and Dukawa in Dambatta local government area Kano state.

The Executive Secretary Kano State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) Dr Saleh Aliyu Jili has led a delegation to the affected areas, describing the incident as unfortunate.

He said they were at Dambatta on behalf of Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje to condole the families affected by the disaster and as well distribute relief items.

He explained the Government was committed to the protection of life and properties of its citizens through policies and programmes aimed at uplifting the standards of living.

Chairman of Dambatta, Alhaji Mohammad Abdullahi Kore, pointed out that “over seventy houses were destroyed, one dead and scores injured including a pregnant woman and underage children.”

Kore said Dambatta local government council would take proactive measures to prevent future occurrences in addition to footing the medical bills of those indisposed.
