In a remarkable achievement, a 14-year-old girl from Zimbabwe, Taida Mapara, has earned a place at the University of Malawi College of Medicine, setting a new record as one of the youngest African students ever admitted to a university.

Taida's educational journey has been nothing short of exceptional. She successfully completed 13 years of primary and high school curriculum in just 8 years. Her academic prowess shone through when she aced the A' Level Cambridge examinations in June 2020, securing three As in Biology, Chemistry, and Mathematics while studying at Hilbright Science College in Zimbabwe.

Since childhood, Taida aspired to become a medical doctor, and her outstanding academic achievements have now paved the way for her to pursue a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree at the University of Malawi.

Reflecting on her journey, Taida shared that her determination to study medicine was further fueled by the perception that it was a challenging field. She saw the difficulty as a motivating factor. "Everyone says medicine is very hard, but that made me want to study it even more. If there are people out there who were able to get through it, then why can't I?" she emphasized.

Taida has a particular passion for the human heart, which she developed while in high school. Her enthusiasm for cardiology has only grown, and she aspires to specialize in this field. "The heart still fascinates me now, and the more I learn about it, the more my interest grows. I chose cardiology because I would love to work in a specialty that focuses on the heart; I feel like it would make being a doctor even more interesting and spectacular," she expressed.
