48-Year-Old Firefighter Achieves PhD After 30 Years of Service

Carey D. Waddell, a dedicated 48-year-old firefighter in the United States, has attained a Doctorate Degree (PhD) from Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Arizona. Despite serving his community for 30 years in the United States Air Force as a firefighter, Waddell pursued higher education to earn his Bachelors, Masters, and now a PhD.

Beginning his academic journey in 2009 at Ashford University, Waddell earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Organizational Management Minor Public Administration in 2012. Shortly after, he continued his studies at Grand Canyon University, achieving a Master of Science Degree in Leadership with Disaster Preparedness and Executive Fire Leadership.

In 2019, Carey D. Waddell proudly obtained his PhD from Grand Canyon University, specializing in Leadership and Organizational Development. Celebrating his achievement on LinkedIn, he shared, “When the chips are stacked against you, you have to remember past accomplishments. I earned a Doctoral of Education degree with an emphasis in Leadership and Organizational Development in 2019. I’m ready for my next journey to the top in a new career. Won’t stop…can’t stop.”

Waddell, who retired voluntarily from the fire service after three decades, began as a firefighter and worked his way up to Fire Chief. His inspiring journey showcases resilience, determination, and the pursuit of educational excellence in the face of professional challenges.
