ABU Iya Abubakar Institute of ICT Holds Orientation for 2025/2026 Diploma Cohort

 The Iya Abubakar Institute of ICT (IAIICT) at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, hosted a comprehensive orientation programme for its newly admitted Diploma students on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at the Yusufu Bala Usman Hall.

Representing the Director of the Institute, Prof. E.A. Adedokun, the Deputy Director, Dr. B.H. Sani, congratulated the students and underscored the Institute’s evolution from offering short courses to robust diploma programmes. He assured the matriculants of a hitch-free academic journey. Dr. (Mrs.) Odengele, Head of ETU, added that the curriculum is specifically engineered to produce highly skilled professionals ready to bridge the country’s ICT job gap.

The Institute’s Examination Officer, Kamal Mahmud, provided a critical briefing on examination rules and the importance of understanding the Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA). He noted that a lack of clarity regarding CGPA often contributes to student failure and urged the new intake to monitor their academic standing diligently.

University leaders provided guidance on navigating campus life:

Discipline: The Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Sahalu Junaidu (represented by Prof. Halima Mahmud), warned that the University maintains a zero-tolerance policy for indecency.

Security: Chief Security Officer Malam Ashiru T. Zango (represented by Cyprian Idache) emphasized the University’s strict stance against cultism and drug abuse.

Health & Support: Prof. Mohammed Dauda Maigatari (University Health Services) and Prof. Hadiza Ahmed Tukur (Counseling Centre) encouraged students to utilize the 24-hour medical facilities and counseling services available to support their physical and mental well-being.

Closing the event, the Institute Secretary, Malam Usman Shehu Lawal, thanked the resource persons and reaffirmed the Institute’s unwavering support for the students' academic and professional progress.
