ABU Partners with Universities of Glasgow and Salford for Joint Research, Teaching, and Training

Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, has established comprehensive inter-institutional linkages with two UK universities: the University of Glasgow (UofG) and the University of Salford (UofS), focusing on academic exchange, joint research, and skills acquisition training.

During a recent visit to the UK institutions led by ABU Vice-Chancellor Professor Adamu Ahmed, agreements were reached to formalize these partnerships.

Discussions at both UK universities included the Africa Centre of Excellence for Neglected Tropical Diseases and Forensic Biotechnology (ACENTDFB) at ABU. Professor YKE Ibrahim, the Centre Leader, presented the planned consortium on neglected tropical diseases and non-communicable diseases (ANNCo), sparking interest from principal investigators at both UofG and UofS who expressed willingness to join the consortium. It was also agreed that ACENTDFB would participate in the validation and clinical trials of a repositioned antimalarial drug.

The ABU delegation encouraged all staff and students to familiarize themselves with the academic and research activities at the partner institutions, with plans to extend collaborations to faculties of Social Sciences, Agriculture, Veterinary Medicine, and Administration.
