ABU Vice-Chancellor, Four Others Honored as Fellows of Horticultural Society of Nigeria
The event, tagged "ABU Zazzau 2024," will be held from November 10 to 15 at the Samaru College of Agriculture, ABU Zaria.
Five prominent academics, including Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kabiru Bala, will receive the Fellow of the Horticultural Society of Nigeria (HORTSON) at the Society’s 42nd annual conference. The event, tagged "ABU Zazzau 2024," will be held from November 10 to 15 at the Samaru College of Agriculture, ABU Zaria.
Joining Prof. Bala in receiving this esteemed honor are Prof. Bashir Ahmad Babaji, Director of the Division of Agricultural Colleges at ABU; Prof. Muhammad Lawal Attanda, Executive Director of the National Horticultural Research Institute (NIHORT); along with Prof. Aisha Abubakar Mukhtar and Prof. Adamu Ahmed, both from ABU’s Department of Agronomy. Prof. Bala’s recognition highlights his dedication to environmental management and ecosystem preservation.
The conference theme, “Strategic Roles of Research, Innovation, and Extension in Strengthening National Horticultural Technology for Sustainable Food Production,” underscores the importance of horticulture in food security. Prof. Musa A. Mahadi, Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee, confirmed that Prof. Aiyelaagbe Isaac Ore-Oluwa Olatokunbo from the Federal University of Agriculture will deliver a keynote on enhancing public and private participation in horticulture.
The event will feature lead papers by NIHORT's Prof. Attanda and former Al-Qalam University Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Shehu Ado Garki. HORTSON, established in 1977, continues to drive interdisciplinary research and collaboration to advance horticulture in Nigeria.
