Babalola, who said that the swimming pool would be ready for commissioning by the end of this year, added that the goal was to prepare athletes from ABUAD in Ekiti State in particular, and Nigeria in general, for international medals
The ABUAD founder gave the assurance in Ado-Ekiti during the grand finale of the 11th Yeye Aare Modupe Babalola Athletics Festival, tagged, “YAMBAF 2023,” where delegates from tertiary institutions and secondary schools from Ekiti State and neighbouring states participated.
Babalola said: “As you are aware, swimming alone provides more medals than any other event. This (the swimming pool) will provide all of you the opportunity to train and hopefully participate in swimming in the Olympics and obtain international awards.”
He, therefore, charged the ABUAD athletes and indeed those from the invited schools to strive and prepare themselves for the awards at the YAMBAF 2023 and indeed the future edition to benefit in the awards planned by the university’s Director of Sports, Gboyega Babalola, saying: “If I were you, I would strategically position myself to be a winner.

Meanwhile, the management of sports in ABUAD, led by Prof. Gboyega Babalola, has announced a yearly award of N1 million to the best female and male athletes from the institution.
According to him, the beneficiary must not only excel in sports but must be outstanding in his or her academic pursuit as well.
