Accreditation Strengthens Quality Assurance, Says UI DVC as Pharmacy Council Visits
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) of the University of Ibadan (UI), Professor Juwon Arotiba, has described academic accreditation as a vital mechanism for continuous improvement and the maintenance of global standards in professional training.
Professor Arotiba made these remarks on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kayode Adebowale, while receiving the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN) Accreditation Team at the university's Senate Chamber. The team is on a statutory visit to assess the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences for the 2025/2026 academic session.
Professor Arotiba reaffirmed that UI remains committed to its core values of excellence in teaching and research. He assured the council of the University Management’s total cooperation, noting that such exercises ensure graduates are well-equipped for the complexities of modern professional practice.
The leader of the accreditation team and Registrar of the PCN, Pharm. Ibrahim Babashehu Ahmed, lauded the University of Ibadan for its longstanding reputation as Nigeria’s premier institution. He clarified that the exercise is a peer-review process aimed at:

Prof. James Oyeniyi (Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto)
Dr. Awodayo Adepiti (Obafemi Awolowo University)
Dr. Anthony Iduko, Pharm. Ogunlola Adenike, and Pharm. Agboma Igbokwe from the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria.
The accreditation exercise is expected to provide a roadmap for further enhancing the capacity of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences to produce world-class pharmacists.
