The Achievers University Faculty of Law has clinched the Best Memorial Award at the Nigerian National Rounds of the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition, recognized globally as one of the largest and most prestigious moot court contests.

Organized annually by the International Law Students Association (ILSA), the competition simulates proceedings before the International Court of Justice, testing students’ mastery of public international law, written advocacy, and oral argumentation. Achievers University’s delegation stood out among competing Nigerian universities for the quality of its written submissions—memorials—evaluated on legal reasoning, research depth, and clarity.
Acting Vice-Chancellor Oyesoji Aremu hailed the achievement as “a defining moment for Achievers University’s global academic engagement,” emphasizing that it reflects disciplined preparation and intellectual rigor. He assured that the University would formally recognize the team’s success and encouraged broader student participation in future international moot competitions.
The Dean of the Faculty of Law, Professor Olaposi Olaseeni, said the result highlights the faculty’s commitment to experiential learning and international exposure. “Our students competed with confidence against leading institutions, proving that Achievers University belongs at the highest level of global legal advocacy,” he stated.
Team leader Godwin Marvelous David attributed the success to mentorship and teamwork, noting that the Best Memorial Award recognizes months of rigorous research, drafting, and revision. The team included Priscilla Oluyemisi Olorunfemi, Joy Kelechi Chukwuma, Adekunle Lateefah Oluwabusolami, Benjamin Bawa Oghenerukevwe, Eki Annemarie Oghenekome, and Nneeh Esther Omeniogo, all maintaining a minimum 4.0 CGPA.
The team was guided by Sub-Dean Sunday John Apochi, alongside Dr. Cynthia C. Izu and Mr. Olayide Dara, whose mentorship was credited for shaping the students’ performance.
This national recognition builds on the Faculty of Law’s growing track record of excellence, which includes first-class undergraduate graduates excelling at the Nigerian Law School, and reinforces Achievers University’s reputation as a rising center for legal scholarship and international academic engagement.
