The Vice-Chancellor of Alex-Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State, Prof. Sunday Elom has inaugurated a Caretaker Committee for the Students’ Union Government body, to oversee the affairs of students for two months, pending when a new SUG election will be conducted, with a charge to obey the rules and regulations of the institution, Myschoolnews gathered.

While applauding the Students’ officials who were carefully selected by the Deans of various Faculties, Prof Elom appreciated the outgoing executive for the passion they had for the students in particular and the institution at large, especially in fostering peace and order. He thanked them for maintaining cordial relationship with the university Management and its host Community all through their tenure and hoped they continue to uphold the tenets of the University’s motto of excellence and integrity even after graduation.

He maintained that as Vice-Chancellor, he would always insist on allowing students to choose their leaders and representatives in a free and transparent process, adding that he had no preferred candidate and ready to work with anyone chosen by students, even as he advised the incoming Caretaker Committee to follow in the footprints of the immediate past SUG executive as they displayed good leadership qualities during their reign, not forgetting to make their academic pursuit a priority.

Delivering his valedictory speech at the inauguration, the immediate past president of the Students Union Government, Comrade Peter C. Anukaenyi, a student of the department of Civil Engineering thanked the University Management for the constant encouragement and love during their tenure, adding that leadership is characterised with love, passion and accountability, which he made sure were not lacking during his tenure.

 

Comrade Anukaenyi further advised the incoming Caretaker Committee to work hand-in-hand with the University Management to ensure they continue to maintain peace on campus while pleading with the management to look into some of the challenges facing the students

 

While delivering his inaugural address, the Chairman of the SUG Caretaker Committee, Comrade Maduagwuna Chukwubuike, a student of the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, noted that he was honoured to be selected as Chairman of the Committee, pledging to do his best as well as carry his colleagues along to deliver on the assigned mandates even with the short period of time allocated for their work. He further pledged to follow the seamless footsteps of his immediate predecessors to bring the University to amiable heights, and to always abide by the university’s rules and regulations in the discharge of their responsibilities.

Members of the newly-constituted SUG Caretaker Committee include: Maduagwuna Chukwubuike (Chairman), Okah Chiamaka C. (Vice-Chairman), Edene Solomon (secretary), Okechukwu Amarachi (Assistant Secretary), Oji Orieji Victoria (Treasurer), Uzoalor Victor (Director of Finance), Onukagha Sopuruchi  G. (Director Welfare), Alobu Abigail Chiamaka ( Director of Health), Andrew Prince Chima (Director of Socials), Amulu Patrick (Director of Transport), Ngwu Wilfred (Director of Sport), and Hils Alex Oluchi (Director of Information).
