The Institute for Agricultural Research (IAR) of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, organized a Brown Maize Production Field Day on October 4, 2024, in Tambuwal Local Government, Sokoto State.

The event focused on research, training, and empowering maize farmers in Sokoto South Senatorial District, sponsored by Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal CFR.

Farmers from Shagari, Tambuwal, and Kebbe local governments were introduced to improved maize varieties like SAMMAZ 15, 18, 29, 52, and 66, as well as the SAMPEA 20T cowpea variety. Prof. Ado Yusuf, Executive Director of IAR, emphasized agricultural innovations to address climate challenges, while feedback from participating farmers highlighted the success of these new maize varieties.
