Ahmadu Bello University Mourns the Passing of Prof. Ezra Bako Amans

Throughout his tenure, Prof. Amans held several key positions, including Ag. Programme Leader in Horticulture, Head of the Department of Agronomy, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, and various roles within the Institute for Agricultural Research (IAR).

Ahmadu Bello University Mourns the Passing of Prof. Ezra Bako Amans

Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) is mourning the loss of Professor Ezra Bako Amans, who passed away on October 21, 2024, after an illness. The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kabiru Bala, extends condolences to the bereaved family, friends, and colleagues of the late academic.

Born on July 2, 1952, in Billiri, Gombe State, Prof. Amans received his early education at Central Primary School, Billiri, before completing his secondary education at Government Secondary Schools in Bauchi and Maiduguri. He pursued higher education at Ahmadu Bello University, where he earned a B.Sc. in Agriculture in 1976, followed by an M.Sc. in Agronomy in 1982 and a Ph.D. in 1990.

Prof. Amans joined the faculty at Ahmadu Bello University in 1979 as an Assistant Lecturer and advanced to the rank of Professor in 2004. During his career, he taught and supervised numerous undergraduate and postgraduate students and played a vital role in mentoring academic staff. His contributions to academia include 60 publications and peer-reviewed papers, as well as 16 research and technical reports.

Throughout his tenure, Prof. Amans held several key positions, including Ag. Programme Leader in Horticulture, Head of the Department of Agronomy, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, and various roles within the Institute for Agricultural Research (IAR).

The university recognizes Prof. Amans for his significant contributions to the institution and the broader community. He will be laid to rest in his hometown of Billiri, Gombe State, on Friday, October 25, 2024. The university management prays for the eternal rest of the deceased and encourages the bereaved family to find solace in the fulfilled life Prof. Amans led.
