Ahmadu Bello University to Benefit from 12MW Solar Plant Project

Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) has been selected to benefit from a special intervention project under the Renewed Hope Infrastructure Fund, which will provide a 12MW solar plant to address the institution's perennial electricity challenges.

 

The Rural Electricity Agency (REA) will build the solar plant as a grant to the university, with construction expected to commence immediately and be completed by December 2025.

The project aims to significantly improve the university's operational efficiency and reduce its reliance on expensive and unreliable grid power. The REA Managing Director, Alhaji Abba Abubakar Aliyu, assured that the agency will work closely with ABU to develop a sustainable energy model that ensures reliable power supply at a minimal cost.

The university's Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kabiru Bala, expressed gratitude to the REA for its support and reaffirmed ABU's commitment to collaborating with the agency to ensure the project's success.

 

This intervention is expected to have a positive impact on the university community, enhancing academic, administrative, and research activities, while also reducing the financial burden of high electricity costs.
