Ahmadu Bello University Wins ECOWAS Moot Court Competition
The Faculty of Law at Ahmadu Bello University has emerged victorious in the maiden edition of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Moot Court Competition.
The competition, held at Zuma Rock Resorts in Niger State, brought together 17 universities, with Ahmadu Bello University standing out for its exceptional performance.
The university's team, comprising Auwal Abdulmuhyi Adam, Mu'azu Farida Sani, and Keulere Nabil Olarewaju, demonstrated remarkable legal knowledge, composure, and eloquence throughout the competition. Their outstanding performance in the memorial stage secured them a place in the oral rounds, where they excelled in advocating for both the applicant and respondent.
Ahmadu Bello University won the top cash prize of N5 million and the 'Best Memorial Award,' which came with an additional N1 million cash prize. The team's achievement is a testament to the collective dedication, synergy, and brilliance of the students, as well as the guidance of their advisor, Dr. Umar Sani Bebeji.
The ECOWAS Court of Justice Moot Court Competition aims to educate young lawyers, create awareness about the activities of the West African regional bloc, and build the capacity of young lawyers. The competition's theme, centered around regional integration and human rights, showcased students' advocacy and legal reasoning skills.
ECOWAS court officials praised the initiative and announced that the competition would become an annual event, providing a platform for students to develop their skills and compete with their peers from other universities.
