Ahmadu Bello University’s NAPRI Scientists Appointed to SON National Technical Committees

Ahmadu Bello University’s National Animal Production Research Institute (NAPRI) has seen two of its scientists appointed by the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) to serve on national technical committees. Dr. Idris Abdullah, Programme Leader for the Poultry Research Programme, has been designated as Chairman of the National Technical Committee on Meat, Poultry, Eggs, and Related Products within SON’s Food and Agriculture Group.

Meanwhile, Dr. Ishiaku Yunusa Muhammad, who serves as Assistant Director for Extension and Linkages in the Feeds and Nutritional Research Programme, has been appointed as a member of the National Technical Committee on Animal Feeding, Feeds, and Feeding Stuff.

Dr. Abdullah’s role will involve leading efforts to establish and standardize practices within the food and agriculture sector, focusing on meat, eggs, poultry, and related products. His appointment, effective from October 23, 2024, followed a rigorous selection process involving recommendations from 17 experts representing universities, research institutions, and federal technology colleges across Nigeria. He will serve in this capacity for a three-year term.

Dr. Muhammad’s appointment, effective from October 12, 2024, is indefinite as long as he remains in service at NAPRI. His duties will include contributing to the development of national standards, reviewing Nigeria’s positions on draft standards at the national and international levels, and supporting SON in identifying and engaging relevant stakeholders for the committee’s activities. 

Both scientists are expected to bring innovative solutions to their roles and reinforce Ahmadu Bello University’s impact on agricultural and food production standards in Nigeria.
