Air Force Institute Student Runs 64 Kilometers in Honor of Nigeria's 64th Independence

A 400-level student at the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) in Kaduna, Success Ayagwa, celebrated Nigeria's 64th Independence anniversary by running 64 kilometers within the Nigerian Air Force Base.

In a unique and patriotic display of endurance, a 400-level student at the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) in Kaduna, Success Ayagwa, marked Nigeria’s 64th Independence anniversary with an impressive long-distance run. On Tuesday, October 1, Ayagwa ran a grueling 64 kilometers, completing the challenge in five hours within the Nigerian Air Force Base in Kaduna.

This is the second consecutive year Ayagwa has undertaken such a feat. Last year, he ran 63 kilometers to celebrate the country’s 63rd anniversary. Speaking to reporters after the run, Ayagwa said he wanted to express his deep love for Nigeria and showcase his talent in long-distance running.

“It was really tough running for five hours, but I knew with perseverance, I would achieve it,” Ayagwa said.

Ayagwa’s coach, Sergeant Wayo Emmanuel, who serves as the chief instructor at AFIT’s Office of the Director of Sports, praised the runner’s determination. He noted that Ayagwa had placed seventh among participants in the prestigious 2023 Okpekpe Road Race and expressed confidence in the student’s potential to reach greater heights in athletics.

“With determination, I believe Success can achieve his desired goals, especially as he is still within the age range for professional runners,” Emmanuel remarked.

Wing Commander Bassey Okon, AFIT’s Director of Public Relations, highlighted Ayagwa’s achievement as a testament to the institution’s commitment to nurturing exceptional talents both academically and athletically.
