Alex Ekwueme Federal University Inaugurates Faculty-Built Shops to Ease Campus Life
Alex Ekwueme Federal University inaugurates new shops constructed by Faculty of Education, enhancing convenience for staff and students.
In a significant move to enhance the convenience of staff and students, the Vice-Chancellor of Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike, Prof. Sunday Elom, has commissioned a new block of four shops constructed by the Faculty of Education. This project aims to address the everyday needs of the university community by reducing the stress associated with searching for essential commodities across the campus.
The initiative for the construction of the shops was approved by Prof. Elom in May 2023, following a proposal presented by the immediate past Acting Dean of the Faculty of Education, Dr. Francisca Ogba. The Vice-Chancellor's approval came during a courtesy call in which Dr. Ogba highlighted the necessity of the project.

At the commissioning ceremony, the Acting Dean of the Faculty of Education, Dr. Ntasiobi Igu, expressed her gratitude towards the Vice-Chancellor for fulfilling his promise. She emphasized that the revenue generated from the shops would help meet various needs of the faculty and contribute to the university's Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).
Dr. Igu also disclosed that the funding for the construction came from the proceeds of the faculty's last conference, the surplus from their previous teaching practice, and the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) induction fees.

Representing the Vice-Chancellor, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Prof. Romanus Ejiaga, praised the Faculty of Education for their innovative and practical approach. He noted that the shops would significantly benefit both staff and students and encouraged other faculties to undertake similar initiatives to support their development.

In her remarks, Dr. Francisca Ogba, the former Acting Dean, thanked Prof. Elom for his initial approval and applauded Dr. Igu for her dedication to completing the project. She highlighted the collective effort that made the project successful.
Dr. David Udu, the Chairman of the Faculty committee overseeing the project, acknowledged the supportive environment provided by Prof. Elom, which was crucial for the project's fruition. He also praised Dr. Igu and the committee members for their hard work and called for the provision of electricity in the shops to facilitate business operations.
The new shops are set to enhance the university's infrastructure, providing a convenient shopping option for essential goods within the campus, thereby improving the overall quality of campus life for the university community.
