What is NOUN? NOUN is a federal institution designed to provide distance learning opportunities for individuals, especially working professionals, who are seeking flexible ways to pursue higher education. The university runs various academic programmes remotely, allowing students to study at their own pace without leaving their jobs.
Is NOUN Right for You? NOUN is ideal for individuals who have struggled to gain admission to conventional universities or who have not been successful with the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) UTME. It also serves students with existing qualifications (such as BSc, HND, or OND) who seek higher education opportunities through Direct Entry without having to take JAMB. The university is known for its federal government backing and recognition in the academic and professional sectors.
Admission Requirements NOUN provides admission at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. For 100-level admissions, candidates are required to have at least five (5) credits in SSCE, NECO, or GCE, including Mathematics and English. Direct Entry into 200-level requires qualifications such as National Diploma (ND), NCE, IJMB, or relevant certificates. For postgraduate programmes, candidates must possess a bachelor’s degree or HND with at least lower credit or equivalent qualifications.
Programmes Offered NOUN offers a wide range of programmes across multiple faculties, including:
Undergraduate Programmes: Degrees in Agriculture, Arts, Health Sciences, Education, Management, Sciences, and Social Sciences.
Postgraduate Programmes: Diplomas and Master’s degrees in Business Administration, Public Administration, Criminology, and many others.
Doctoral Programmes: PhD programmes in fields such as Business Administration, Educational Technology, Public Administration, and Peace Studies.
Learning Methodology NOUN’s academic structure is built around distance learning, providing students with online study materials, self-paced learning, and virtual assessments through the Tutor-Marked Assignments (TMA) platform. Examinations are held twice a year at designated study centres across the country.
NYSC Participation and Law School NOUN graduates currently receive a letter of exclusion from the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) but efforts are ongoing to ensure full participation in the future. Additionally, graduates of NOUN's Law programme have been accepted into the Nigerian Law School since 2022.
