Aminat Imoitesemeh Yusuf Shines as LASU's Best Graduating Student, Breaks 40-Year-Old Record

In a groundbreaking achievement, Aminat Imoitesemeh Yusuf, a 23-year-old law graduate from Lagos State University (LASU), has set a new standard by breaking the institution's 40-year-old record with a remarkable 5.0 Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA). Recognizing her extraordinary accomplishment, Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, presented her with a monetary reward of N5 million, in addition to another N5 million from the Lagos State Government.

The convocation ceremony, which marked LASU's 40th anniversary, celebrated achievements and recognized distinguished individuals. Former Lagos Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola, Chief of Staff to the President Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, former Ekiti State Governor Dr. Kayode Fayemi, and First Lady of Lagos Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu were honored with honorary doctorate degrees.
During the event, Governor Sanwo-Olu pledged continued support for LASU's pursuit of academic excellence and global competitiveness. He praised LASU's Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, and the leadership team for maintaining high standards and fostering uninterrupted academic sessions.

A total of 10,966 students graduated from LASU, with 282 achieving First Class, 3,375 obtaining Second Class (Upper Division), 5,311 securing Second Class (Lower Division), and 1,105 completing with a Pass. Additionally, 133 candidates earned doctorate degrees, while 1,801 received master's degrees and post-graduate diploma certificates.
Aminat Yusuf attributed her success to hard work, guidance from professors, and divine direction. Despite facing financial challenges, she persevered and excelled academically. Yusuf called for investments in the education sector and applauded the passage of the Student Loan Act, anticipating its positive impact.
