A 30-year-old teacher has been arrested in Anambra State for allegedly beating an 8-year-old pupil into a coma. The incident occurred at Landmark School in Mgbakwu, Awka North Local Government Area, leading to the school's permanent closure by the state government.

Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, announced the closure and detailed the steps taken, including summoning the school's proprietor and the involved teacher, Faith Nwonye. Chuma-Udeh emphasized that the closure was due not only to the incident but also because the school was operating illegally.

Chuma-Udeh stated, "We received this unfortunate incident from an illegal school in Mgbakwu. The school’s proprietress and the teacher involved have been handed over to the police for further investigation."

She reiterated the government's zero-tolerance policy towards violence against children and illegal educational institutions, promising that the teacher would face full legal repercussions for her actions.
