ASUU Awards Scholarships Worth Over N4 Million to 20 Indigent ABU Students
ASUU's Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) chapter has awarded scholarships worth over N4.4 million to 20 indigent students.

The Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has awarded scholarships to 20 indigent students, totaling over N4.4 million. The scholarship presentation, held at the Yusufu Bala Usman Hall, Main Campus, Samaru, Zaria, marked the second edition of the initiative.
Speaking at the event, Vice-Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University, Prof. Kabiru Bala, lauded ASUU's commitment to supporting students. Represented by the Dean of Students Affairs, Prof. Sahalu Junaidu, he acknowledged the union’s role in complementing the university's existing scholarship programs for students with special needs and foreign students. He urged the beneficiaries to maximize the opportunity and strive for academic excellence.
In his remarks, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Advancement, Research, and Innovation, Prof. Sanusi Aliyu Rafindadi, commended ASUU for prioritizing societal development despite economic challenges faced by academic staff. He emphasized that the union's gesture demonstrates selflessness and called on the beneficiaries to reciprocate the kindness in the future.
ASUU ABU Chapter Chairman, Comrade Haruna M. Jibril, highlighted the union’s decision to increase the scholarship value from N2 million last year to N4.4 million this year. He praised ASUU for sustaining the initiative and encouraged continued support for indigent students.
Representatives of the scholarship recipients expressed profound gratitude for the support, describing the financial aid as a significant boost to their academic journey. They thanked ASUU for recognizing their potential and pledged to work hard to justify the award.
