NANS Zone A Inspects Federal Polytechnic Kaura Namoda Facilities, Raises Concerns Over Students’ Welfare
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Zone A (North-West) has engaged the outgoing and incoming Students’ Union Government (SUG) executives of the Federal Polytechnic Kaura Namoda, Zamfara State, as part of efforts to assess students’ welfare, academic conditions and other challenges affecting the institution.
The engagement, which took place on August 17, 2026, was led by the Zonal Public Relations Officer of NANS Zone A, Comr. Kafilu Abdullahi Banki-Durumbun Rijiya.
According to a statement issued by the NANS Zone A Public Relations Office, the visit was part of the association’s ongoing efforts to strengthen collaboration with student leaders across tertiary institutions in the North-West and ensure that students’ concerns receive appropriate attention.
During the visit, the NANS official held discussions with the outgoing SUG President, Comr. Salaudeen Opeyemi Sadiq; SUG President-Elect, Comr. Yusuf Aliyu; Vice Chairman of NANS JCC Zamfara Axis, Comr. Naziru Mahmud Isa; Financial Secretary, Comr. Faruk Aminu Ibrahim; Assistant Secretary General, Comr. Grace Akwaji; Senate President of the SUG, Comr. Dominic Akume; members of the SUG Executive Council and other student representatives.

The discussions focused on several issues affecting students, including access to potable water, electricity, accommodation, healthcare services, academic facilities, examination processes, timely release of results and campus security.
The engagement also addressed the relationship between students and institutional management, with emphasis on the need for regular communication, mutual understanding and collaboration to maintain a peaceful academic environment.
NANS Zone A further highlighted the importance of policy advocacy on issues such as education funding, tuition and other institutional charges, students’ welfare and the overall affordability and quality of tertiary education.
Following the meeting, the NANS Zonal Public Relations Officer and SUG leadership conducted an on-the-spot inspection of selected facilities within the Polytechnic.
The areas inspected included the school clinic, lecture halls and classrooms, student hostels and other critical infrastructure.
The inspection was carried out to enable the student representatives to assess the actual living and learning conditions of students and identify areas that may require intervention from the institution, government and other relevant stakeholders.
NANS said preliminary observations showed that although some efforts were being made, there remained a need for further improvements in infrastructure, welfare services and academic support facilities.
The association commended the outgoing and incoming SUG executives, NANS JCC Zamfara Axis and other student leaders for what it described as their cooperation, maturity and unity of purpose during the engagement.
It also acknowledged the management of Federal Polytechnic Kaura Namoda for providing an enabling environment for the engagement.
NANS Zone A, under the leadership of Comr. Umar S. Doko, reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for students across the North-West, particularly on issues concerning affordable and quality education, welfare, campus security and student participation in decision-making.
The association called on the Federal Government, Zamfara State Government and other stakeholders to increase investment in education, students’ welfare, infrastructure and security across tertiary institutions in the North-West.
NANS maintained that sustained investment in education and the welfare of students remains essential to the development of the country and urged relevant authorities to give greater attention to challenges affecting students in tertiary institutions.
