ATBU Bauchi: 300-Level Student Arrested for Alleged Firearm Possession
According to the Command's Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Ahmed Wakili, Atim Emmanuel was found in possession of a locally made revolver pistol and a cartridge while exiting the university campus. During interrogation, the suspect confessed to obtaining the firearm from an individual named Zadog, who leased it to him for two academic semesters at the cost of N12,000.00.
In a recent development, a 23-year-old 300-level student of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi, identified as Atim Emmanuel, has been apprehended by the State Police Command for the alleged possession of firearms and cartridges.
The arrest occurred on December 11, 2023, just two weeks after the unfortunate killing of a 500-level student, Joseph Agabaidu, from the same university by unidentified assailants. This incident is part of the State Police Command's ongoing efforts to eliminate criminal elements in and around student communities across the state.

Emmanuel claimed he acquired the weapon for personal protection and security against potential criminal attacks. SP Ahmed Wakili stated in a press release on Friday that the State Commissioner of Police, Auwal Mohammed Musa, has directed the transfer of the suspect to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a discreet investigation.

The purpose of the investigation is to unravel the motives behind acquiring the firearm and determine if the suspect has been involved in any criminal activities, including possible homicides. Upon completion of the investigation, the suspect will face charges in court.
In a final statement, the Command urged parents, guardians, and influential leaders to counsel their children and wards against being manipulated into disruptive activities that could jeopardize the relative peace and tranquility enjoyed in the state.
