Bayero University Tops in Fees and Disbursements as NELFund Launches to Support Students

Bayero University, Kano has achieved notable success, registering the highest institutional fees, disbursements, and upkeep allowances among Nigerian universities. The university reported 9,836 registered students, with 8,530 successfully completing their studies.
Total institutional fees amounted to ₦997,725,000, with disbursements of ₦698,406,800 and upkeep allowances of ₦299,318,200. This performance places Bayero University second only to the University of Maiduguri in terms of registered and successful students.
The announcement of these achievements comes as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu launched the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFund) on July 17, 2024, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Established by the Student Loan Act of 2024, NELFund will manage and invest 1% of the total revenue from the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Nigerian Customs Service, and Nigerian Immigration Service. The fund aims to provide loans for higher education, vocational training, and skills acquisition to eligible Nigerian students.
