Bowen University, Iwo, Osun State, is set to honor the academic achievements of 901 students at its 19th convocation ceremony, with 115 students attaining First-Class honors, a milestone indicating the institution’s commitment to academic excellence. This announcement was made by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Jonathan Oyebamiji Babalola, during a press conference held ahead of the convocation.

Professor Babalola disclosed that the graduating students would receive degrees across various levels, including Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral programs. Out of the 901 graduates, 323 earned Second-Class Upper Division, 192 secured Second-Class Lower Division, and 65 achieved Third-Class honors. He also noted that seven students would graduate with a Pass in the MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery) program, which is an unclassified degree.

In the fields of Nursing and Physiotherapy, which are also unclassified, the Vice-Chancellor stated that 14 students achieved Distinction, 90 students earned Credit, and four students obtained Pass. Additionally, 56 students received four distinctions in recognition of their outstanding academic performance across these fields.

Bowen’s postgraduate accomplishments were also highlighted, with Professor Babalola announcing that 10 candidates will receive Postgraduate Diplomas (PGD), 13 candidates will complete Master’s degrees (M.Sc/MBA), and 12 scholars will be awarded Doctorates.

Reflecting on Bowen University’s impact, Professor Babalola emphasized that this convocation raises the institution's total alumni to 17,686 since its first convocation in 2006, which saw 383 graduates. He reaffirmed the university’s dedication to producing distinguished graduates equipped to excel in their respective fields and contribute meaningfully to society.

Bowen University staff achievements were also spotlighted, with Professor Babalola sharing that, for the second year running, seven current staff members have ranked among the Stanford/Elsevier’s top 2 percent of scientists worldwide. This distinction places Bowen University among a select group, as only six Nigerian universities recorded a higher number of top-ranked scientists.

With all staff promotions up to date, Professor Babalola expressed that this milestone reflects the university’s dedication to staff development and recognition, further enhancing its academic standing.
