Breaking: Zookeeper Killed by Lion During Feeding at Obafemi Awolowo University
The Public Relations Officer of the university, Abiodun Olarewaju, confirmed the incident, stating that despite efforts by other staff members to rescue Mr. Olawuyi, the lion had already inflicted severe injuries.
A 9-year-old male lion at the Zoological garden of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, tragically killed a zookeeper, Mr. Olabode Olawuyi, during a feeding session.
Mr. Olawuyi, a Veterinary Technologist who had been in charge of the Zoological garden for over a decade, was fatally attacked by the male lion while carrying out his duties.

Upon receiving the news, the management team, led by Vice Chancellor Prof Adebayo Bamire, halted an ongoing meeting for an on-the-spot assessment.Despite all first aid and medical efforts, Mr. Olawuyi's life could not be saved. As a result, the aggressive lion was euthanized.

The university management has extended condolences to the family of the deceased and initiated a comprehensive investigation into the incident to determine its immediate and remote causes.Incidents of lion attacks, though rare, have occurred in other parts of the world, underscoring the inherent risks associated with working closely with wild animals.
