Brilliant 17-year-old Boy Graduates as a Biomedical Engineer from US University, Earns PhD at 19 Years Old

In a remarkable feat of academic excellence, 17-year-old Tanishq Abraham has achieved the extraordinary by obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering and, subsequently, a Ph.D. from the University of California, United States. 

Tanishq's academic journey began at the young age of 13 when he enrolled at the University of California Davis, completing his Bachelor's degree in just three years with honors (Summa Cum Laude). His father, Bijou Abraham, spoke to NBC News, describing his son as an exceptional child who joined the high-IQ society Mensa at the age of 4, which is recognized as the world's largest and oldest high-IQ society.

"We tested him and discovered that he was pretty smart. We were surprised when we started giving him advanced stuff, and he was picking it up really fast," Bijou Abraham stated.

Tanishq's educational achievements didn't stop there. He graduated from high school at the age of 10 and, astonishingly, obtained three associate degrees by the age of 11. His focus during his Ph.D. research at the University of California Davis was on using artificial intelligence in microscopy techniques for digital pathology within the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine.

Taking to Twitter, Tanishq expressed his joy and accomplishment, saying, "Very excited to share the news that I successfully defended my PhD research today! After 4 years 8 months in the @UCDavisGrad @UCDavisBMEGGgraduate program, I am now Dr. Tanishq Mathew Abraham (at 19 years old)."

Tanishq's educational journey in the United States has exposed him to numerous funding and scholarship opportunities. He also serves as the CEO of MedARC, a medical AI research organization focused on training foundation models for medicine, and he conducts generative and medical AI research at Stability AI.
