In a bid to enhance career readiness among students, the Canadian Education Council (CEC) recently held a two-day career development training workshop for students of Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED), Ondo, in collaboration with the University’s Counselling and Human Development Career Services Centre (CHDCSC).

In a bid to enhance career readiness among students, the Canadian Education Council (CEC) recently held a two-day career development training workshop for students of Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED), Ondo, in collaboration with the University’s Counselling and Human Development Career Services Centre (CHDCSC).

The workshop took place from Tuesday, February 24 to Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at the Prof. Babatunde Ipaye Lecture Theatre.

The Vice-Chancellor of AFUED, Prof. Bayode Isaiah Popoola, lauded the CEC for partnering with the University, describing the initiative as a platform to “open our University to the rest of the world.” He expressed appreciation to the CEC’s National Country Director, Dr. John Adeniyi, for selecting AFUED among the tertiary institutions to benefit from the programme and encouraged participants to make optimal use of the workshop.

The Director, Directorate of International Linkages and Research Development (DILRD), Dr. Adejumoke Ale, explained that the workshop, the first since the signing of the MoU between AFUED and CEC, aimed to equip students and educators with essential knowledge for self-discovery, clarity, confidence, soft skills development, and job readiness after graduation. She described the collaboration as a strategic milestone and credited the University Management for its support in making the initiative successful.

During a seminar titled “From Campus to Career: The Power of Internship and Career Development”, Dr. John Adeniyi highlighted the challenges Nigerian graduates face, including lack of internet experience, poorly written CVs, skill gaps, and fear of competitive job markets. He stressed that meaningful education must combine academic training with professional development to enhance employability.

Dr. Adeniyi also commended AFUED for establishing the Counselling, Human Development, and Career Services Centre, noting that its proper utilization could help students overcome unemployment challenges post-graduation.

As part of the workshop activities, AFUED unveiled the maiden edition of the DILRD newsletter, further highlighting the University’s commitment to knowledge dissemination and career advancement.

The event drew an impressive gathering of university stakeholders, including principal officers such as Prof. Ireti Folasade Alao (Deputy Vice-Chancellor), Mrs. Olufisayo Fakorede (Registrar’s Representative), Mrs. Taiwo Adedoyin (Bursar), Dr. Azino Akpokuriere (Librarian), alongside deans, directors, department heads, staff, and students.

The two-day initiative underscored the importance of global exposure, professional training, and practical career guidance in preparing AFUED students to compete effectively in local and international job markets.
