Catholic Priests Donate N50 Million to Varsity Teaching Hospital

Catholic priests in Enugu Diocese have demonstrated their commitment to healthcare and education by donating N50 million to Godfrey Okoye University (GOUNI) Teaching Hospital in Enugu. The generous contribution aims to accelerate ongoing transformational projects within the hospital, furthering its mission to provide quality healthcare services to the community.

The donation was announced during the Unum Presbyterium meeting, a gathering held three times a year to update priests of the diocese on local and universal Church matters. The meeting took place at the university's College of Medicine in Ugwuomu Nike, Enugu, where more than 450 priests gathered to discuss various initiatives and projects.

GOUNI, owned by the Catholic Diocese of Enugu, recently took over Ntasi Obi Hospital as its teaching hospital, significantly expanding its capacity to train medical professionals and serve the healthcare needs of the region. The infusion of funds from the Catholic priests will support the hospital's ongoing efforts to enhance its facilities and services.

In addition to the monetary donation, several priests expressed interest in providing scholarships to deserving students of the university, underscoring the commitment of the Catholic community to advancing education and empowering the youth.

The Auxiliary Bishop of the diocese, Most Rev. Ernest Obodo, encouraged priests to actively engage in projects that contribute to the growth and development of the university. The Bishop of the diocese, Most Rev. Callistus Onaga, commended the priests for their solidarity and dedication to the educational initiatives of the diocese.

Rev. Fr. Christian Anieke, the vice-chancellor of the university, expressed gratitude for the generous donation, describing it as a significant boost to the university's growth objectives. He reaffirmed the university's commitment to fulfilling the mission of the diocese in establishing the institution and providing quality education and healthcare services to the community.
