China's Educational Contribution Strengthens Nigeria-China Relations

In a significant move to strengthen the Nigeria-China relationship and promote educational development, the Chinese Consulate in Nigeria recently unveiled the newly renovated blocks of classrooms at the China-Nigeria Friendship Model Primary School in Igbesa, Ogun State. This remarkable initiative, funded by Free Trade Zone Enterprises with support from the Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in Lagos, underscores the deepening ties between the two nations and their shared commitment to educational advancement.

At the commissioning ceremony of the China-Nigeria Model Primary School, Ms. Yan Yuqing, the Consular General of the People's Republic of China in Lagos, expressed her joy at the successful refurbishment of the school and introduced the Chinese Confucius Institutes in Nigeria. She highlighted the school's role as a bridge of friendship and understanding between Nigeria and China, emphasizing the sincere friendship China holds for Nigeria.

Ms. Yuqing remarked, "Education is related to the future of a country, now you are the future of Nigeria! Work hard and fight for a better tomorrow for the prosperity of Nigeria." Her words underscore the significance of education in shaping the destiny of nations and the bright future that lies ahead for Nigerian students.

Two Confucius Institutes, established at Nnamdi Azikwe University (Unizik) and the University of Lagos (Unilag) in Nigeria, play a pivotal role in promoting cultural exchange and education. Every year, Nigerian university students have the opportunity to learn the Chinese language and Chinese culture through these institutes. Many of these students have pursued higher education in Chinese universities and returned to Nigeria, where they contribute significantly to various sectors.

Ms. Yuqing highlighted the accomplishments of these students, stating, "By learning Chinese, they have not only become envoys of cultural exchanges between Nigeria and China but also become the backbone of Nigeria's national construction." This showcases the positive impact of educational exchange programs in creating well-rounded global citizens. Mrs. Akinboade Yetunde, the pioneer head teacher of the school, expressed her gratitude to the Chinese consulate in Nigeria and requested that the Chinese language be introduced as a subject in the school curriculum. She also called upon the foreign trade zone enterprise to consider building secondary schools, further expanding educational opportunities in the region.
