COOU, NSUK Sign Landmark MoU to Deepen Academic Collaborations

Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), Anambra State, has entered into a new academic partnership with Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), following the formal signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Monday, August 25, 2025.

Leading the COOU delegation, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha, fnipr, was accompanied by the Director of Collaboration and Linkages, Prof. Ngozi Joe-Ikechebelu, alongside Prof. Kingsley Nwozor and Prof. Sylvia Okonkwo. They were warmly received at NSUK by its Vice Chancellor, Prof. Sa’adatu Hassan Lima, the Registrar, Dr. Bala Isyaka Ahmed II, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research, Innovation, and Linkages), Dr. K’tso Nghargbu, and other principal officers.

In her welcome remarks, Prof. Lima, who also marked her first year in office, congratulated Prof. Omenugha on her confirmation as substantive Vice Chancellor of COOU. She noted the uniqueness of their leadership journeys, describing both as trailblazing female Vice Chancellors and the fifth leaders of their respective institutions. According to her, their roles extend beyond administration, serving also as mentors and role models for future leaders.

She further described NSUK as a cosmopolitan hub of ideas and cultures, adding that the collaboration with COOU was both timely and strategic. Prof. Lima stressed that the MoU would provide a platform for staff and student exchange, joint research, and collaborative innovations, positioning both universities as models for intra-university partnerships in Nigeria.

Responding, Prof. Omenugha commended Prof. Lima’s visionary leadership and congratulated her on her one-year anniversary in office. She described the NSUK Vice Chancellor as a “mover” and reaffirmed COOU’s commitment to pursuing international collaborations. Prof. Omenugha emphasized that the MoU goes beyond academic cooperation to building bridges of understanding and driving sustainable development for both institutions.

The signing of the MoU by the two Vice Chancellors marked the highlight of the event, symbolizing a new chapter of cooperation between COOU and NSUK.

This partnership follows COOU’s recent MoU with Kentucky State University, USA, further advancing the institution’s global linkages. Under the leadership of Prof. Kate Omenugha, COOU continues to position itself as the “Now University and of the Future.”
