The Senate of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University has elected five academic staff members to represent the institution in its Governing Council during its 144th Senate sitting held on Wednesday, May 6, 2026.

The session, which took place at the university’s Senate Chambers, was chaired by the Vice-Chancellor, Kate Azuka Omenugha, and witnessed strong participation from members of the Senate.

A total of 128 accredited senators participated in the electoral process, reflecting what university officials described as the institution’s commitment to democratic governance, transparency, and inclusive representation.

Following a competitive nomination and voting exercise, five academics emerged as Senate representatives to the Governing Council.

They include Chukwunonso Ekesiobi of the Department of Economics, who secured 36 votes; MaryJude Igbodika of the Department of Biological Sciences with 33 votes; Nkeriuka Orji of the Department of Medical Laboratory Science, who polled 19 votes; Ogonna Ifebi of the Department of Economics with 14 votes; and Mathias Ananti of the Department of Public Administration, who secured 12 votes.

The university also disclosed that 10 votes cast during the exercise were declared invalid.

The newly elected representatives are expected to contribute to the university’s policy direction and governance framework through their membership in the Governing Council.
