Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) welcomed the New Year 2026 with an interdenominational service on Thursday, January 15, held at the ETF Auditorium.

The event brought together staff, students, and members of the university community to dedicate the year’s academic and administrative activities to God.

The service was marked by praise, worship, and heartfelt prayers, with participants from various denominations uniting in a display of inclusivity, shared values, and spiritual growth.

Delivering the homily, Ven. Dr. Roland Obi referenced John 15:2–4, urging attendees to remain steadfast in Christ as the foundation for success. He highlighted the importance of responsibility and accountability, emphasizing that true commitment in one’s duties is grounded in faithfulness.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha expressed gratitude to the university community for their attendance and commended the committee behind the service handbook, with special recognition for Rev. Fr. Prof. Eugene Anowai for his dedication. Describing the service as “very uplifting,” she underscored the critical role of the “God factor” in the university’s operations.

In her closing remarks, Prof. Omenugha prayed for a smooth and productive year for both staff and students, urging students to approach their studies with seriousness and integrity. The programme featured a special rendition of “Showers of Blessings” by the Music Department and concluded with a priestly blessing, signaling a hopeful start to 2026.
