An Osogbo Chief Magistrate Court has ordered the remand of Ibrahim Muntari at the Ilesa Correctional Centre following a fatal accident on the Ife/Ibadan expressway that claimed the lives of five UNIOSUN students and other passengers.

An Osogbo Chief Magistrate Court has ordered the remand of Ibrahim Muntari at the Ilesa Correctional Centre over a tragic accident that claimed the lives of five students from Osun State University (UNIOSUN) and other passengers.
The fatal accident occurred last Sunday along the Ife/Ibadan expressway in Ikire. Muntari, who was driving a bus towards Ibadan, reportedly collided with an 18-passenger vehicle heading in the same direction, resulting in multiple fatalities.
Among the victims of the crash were five UNIOSUN students identified as:
-
Olagbemide Olaoluwadotun
-
Funmilola Mary Olawuyi
-
Ogundare Oluwapelumi Rhoda
-
Ogundare Ayomide
-
Farooq Suleiman
Muntari appeared before Magistrate Olusegun Ayilara on Wednesday, facing an eight-count charge, including reckless driving, violation of traffic laws, and driving without valid documents. The charges are in line with Section 27 of the RTA CAP 584 laws of Nigeria and other relevant traffic laws in Osun State.
Despite pleading not guilty, Muntari’s lawyer, Shaibu Gomina, sought bail for his client. However, Magistrate Ayilara denied the request and ordered Muntari’s remand at the Ilesa Correctional Centre. The case has been adjourned until June 2, 2025.
The tragic incident has sparked concerns over road safety and compliance with traffic regulations. Families of the deceased students and the UNIOSUN community continue to mourn the loss of promising young lives.
