Covenant University Chancellor’s Cup Celebrates Sportsmanship and Team Spirit
The annual Covenant University Chancellor’s Cup, held at the Covenant University Ultra-Modern Sports Complex, celebrated sportsmanship and team spirit across various sports, including swimming, badminton, athletics, and football.
The Chancellor’s Cup, an annual sporting event at Covenant University in honor of Chancellor Dr. David O. Oyedepo, was recently held at the Covenant University Ultra-Modern Sports Complex. The event featured finals in various sports, including swimming, badminton, athletics, board games, handball, rugby, female football, volleyball, tennis, table tennis, basketball, and weightlifting, with winners from previous matches competing for the prestigious Cup.

The event saw enthusiastic participation from Leadway Health Insurance representatives, University Management, faculty, staff, students, and external spectators. The atmosphere was vibrant, with students from various departments cheering for their teams. Event partners also contributed to the festive mood by distributing gifts to students.
In his opening remarks, Vice-Chancellor Professor Abiodun H. Adebayo praised the students for their commitment and team spirit, emphasizing the importance of physical fitness for optimal performance. He encouraged students to make fitness a lifelong habit.
Dean of Student Affairs, Mrs. Shola Coker, welcomed dignitaries and partners, expressing gratitude and encouraging students to support their departments as the games commenced.
The highlight of the event was a football match between the Computer Engineering and Electrical Engineering Departments, with Computer Engineering securing victory with one goal during halftime. The relay race saw Computer Engineering taking first place. An earlier match between the Accounting and Mechanical Engineering Departments resulted in a 1-0 victory for Accounting.
Medals were awarded to winners in all sports categories, and trophies were presented to the top teams in both male and female football. Special awards and the ‘Team of the Season’ recognition were also given.
In his closing remarks, Vice-Chancellor Professor Adebayo congratulated the winners and encouraged all students to continue striving for excellence. The event was attended by other members of the University Management, highlighting the University's commitment to fostering sportsmanship and team spirit.
