The Governing Council of Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, has approved the implementation of a ₦70,000 minimum wage for its staff, effective from December 2024. The decision was announced by Professor Abdulganiyu Ambali, Chairman of the Governing Council, during a meeting with ASUU (Ibadan Zone) executives at the university's Business School in Ilorin.

Key Announcements:

  • The new minimum wage aims to enhance industrial harmony and encourage staff dedication to the institution's vision.
  • Welfare initiatives include:
    • ₦100,000 tuition rebate for staff children studying at KWASU.
    • ₦50,000 monthly stipend for staff with disabilities.
    • Subsidized transportation between Ilorin and Malete.

Ongoing Dialogue:

Professor Ambali confirmed that discussions with the Kwara State Government are ongoing regarding Earned Academic Allowances (EAA) and reinstating subvention for the university.
