The University of Lagos (UNILAG) Don, Dr. Elias to serve as co-investigator on a Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation funded research project.

The Team Lead of Lagos Urban Studies Group and Associate Professor, Department of Geography, University of Lagos, Dr. Peter Elias is set to represent UNILAG as a co-investigator on a project which has been awarded a grant of one million, six hundred and fifty thousand dollars ($1,650,000:00) by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

The research grant is for a project titled “Participatory Data Modelling” by IDEAMAPS Network. The project is to co-design and develop data-modelling ecosystem to produce area maps routinely and accurately at scale across cities in lower-middle-income countries (LMIC) to support multiple local stakeholders in their decision-making.

The project which will span a thirty-six-month period, will be implemented in Lagos, Kano, and Nairobi. It is to be completed in 2025.

The IDEAMAPS Network involves a multidisciplinary and international consortium with partners at UNILAG, Nigeria; African Population and Health Research Centre, Kenya; University of Twente/ITC Faculty, Netherlands; George Washington University, United States of America; University of York and University of Glasgow, United Kingdom.
