The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria has granted approval for the Computer-Based Test (CBT) Centre at Igbinedion University, Okada, Edo State, to host the final midwifery professional examinations.

The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria has granted approval for the Computer-Based Test (CBT) Centre at Igbinedion University, Okada, Edo State, to host the final midwifery professional examinations.

This milestone was revealed by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Lawrence Ezemonye, on November 30, 2024, during the award ceremony for higher and honorary degrees for the 2023/2024 academic session. Ezemonye highlighted that the CBT facility has already hosted its first examination and will serve as a regional hub for similar tests.

In his address, the Vice-Chancellor announced significant progress in academic programs, including an increase in admission quotas for key medical and health-related disciplines. The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) raised the university’s quota for its medical program (MBBS) from 120 to 150, while the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) increased the nursing science quota from 75 to 150. Other increases included medical laboratory science (75 to 150) and pharmacy (150 to 200).

“These developments underscore the quality of training at Igbinedion University and the growing confidence of regulatory bodies in our programs,” Ezemonye said.

During the event, the university conferred 138 higher degrees, comprising 45 Doctor of Philosophy degrees, 77 Master’s degrees, and 16 Postgraduate Diplomas. A total of 855 graduands were celebrated, with 45 earning first-class honours degrees.

The Chancellor of the university, Chief Gabriel Igbinedion, encouraged graduates to embrace creativity and innovation despite global challenges. The ceremony also featured a convocation lecture by Professor Egle Lastauskiene from Vilnius University, Lithuania, and the conferment of an honorary Doctor of Science degree on Dr. Theresa Freeman Wang, a consultant gynecologist at Whittington Health NHS Trust, London.
