PLASU Hosts Career Workshop for Final-Year Students
PLASU recently hosted a career development workshop for final-year students to enhance employability and skills acquisition. The event highlighted the university's focus on student development and societal relevance.

Plateau State University (PLASU), Bokkos, has hosted an innovative three-day workshop aimed at equipping final-year students with essential skills for the labor market. The event, themed "Creating Your Future: A Guide to Career Development," was organized by the PLASU Career Service Center and is part of the university's ongoing initiatives to prepare students for life after graduation.
According to Dr. Mrs. Anna Nanchin Fakah, Director of the Career Service Center, the program seeks to address unemployment challenges by helping students make informed career choices and acquire the skills needed to stay relevant in an evolving society. She noted that PLASU is one of only ten universities in Nigeria to establish a Career Service Center, thanks to funding from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund).
Speaking at the event, Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Shedrack Best, reiterated the university’s commitment to producing well-rounded graduates equipped to contribute meaningfully to society. Represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Associate Prof. Keziah Ayuba, Prof. Best encouraged participants to pursue additional skills and knowledge alongside their academic qualifications.
"Your academic qualification alone is not enough to secure a job," he advised. "You must do something extra to stand out in the competitive labor market."
The workshop featured lectures by prominent academics, including Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics) Prof. Moses Pyefa, and Associate Prof. Ayuba, who offered valuable insights on employability skills and career development.
Held simultaneously across the university's four faculties, the workshop was lauded as a transformative initiative, with many participants expressing gratitude for the practical advice and mentorship received.
The university’s Career Service Center continues to serve as a platform for empowering students with tools to navigate their careers, reinforcing PLASU’s dedication to holistic education.
